Boomer & Carton on WFan
The Boomer and Carton Show is a daily morning sports talk radio show for WFan in New York City.
The hosts of the show are, former NFL quarterback, Boomer Esiason and, former Jersey Guy, Craig Carton.
The show got it’s start on September 4th, 2007 in the 6am to 10 am time slot after previous morning host, Don Imus,
was fired for making controversial remarks concerning the Rutgers University female basketball team. Since then Boomer and Carton have had one of the most popular morning radio shows in the New York area.
Along with Mike Francesa, they help to make WFAN one of the most popular sports talk radio stations in America.
Boomer and Carton host, Norman Julius “Boomer” Esiason was born on April 17th, 1961 in West Islip, New York. His mother gave him the nickname “Boomer” before his birth due to the excessive amount of kicking he did in the womb.
Safe to say the nickname stuck. Esiason played football at the University of Maryland, where he set 17 passing records and led his team to an ACC title in 1983.
He was drafted in the 2nd round of the 1984 NFL draft by the Cincinnati Bengals. Boomer had a very successful NFL career with the Bengals, Arizona Cardinals, his hometown New York Jets.
During his career he won an MVP award and was selected to 4 pro bowls. After his retirement from the NFL in 1997 he decided to take up broadcasting. In 1994 Boomer Esiason founded the Boomer Esiason Foundation to benefit cystic fibrosis research after his son Gunnar was diagnosed with the disease.
Before working with WFAN he had broadcasting jobs with ABC, Westwood One, and CBS (For which he still is a member of their The NFL Today team).
Boomer currently lives in Manhasset, New York with his wife Cheryl Esiason and their two children, Gunnar Esiason
and Sydney Esiason.
The other half of the Boomer and Carton team is Craig Carton. Craig Carton was born on September 31, 1969 in New Rochelle New York.
In 1991 he graduated from Syracuse University with a degree in, surprise surprise, broadcast journalism.
Early in his career Craig Carton worked as a radio host for numerous radio stations in New York, Pennsylvania, and Colorado.
Carton got his big break when he became a “Jersey Guy” on New Jersey 101.5 FM. His afternoon show on New Jersey 101.5 was one of the highest rated afternoon shows in America while he was there.
His success and popularity made him an easy choice to host New York’s WFAN morning show along side Boomer Esiason.
